Hamilton Civic Choir brings you its fourth and final concert in its 2024 season, ILLUMINARE: Light the Way.
Experience the magic of the season at a captivating concert conducted by Elise Bradley, featuring special guest conductor
Dr Karen Grylls. This enchanting evening will showcase talented local choir soloists and instrumentalists of all kinds — strings, percussion, harp, and piano — all together creating a rich tapestry of sound.
Highlighting the evening will be two larger works: Illuminare, a sparkling and deeply moving extended work by Elaine Hagenberg, accompanied by piano and OCT Ensemble; and A Child Comes Forth, a collection of Christmas texts set to music by New Zealand composer David Hamilton, accompanied by percussion as well as Wellington-based harpist Michelle Velvin.
The programme will additionally include a delightful array of seasonal pieces such as O Viridissima Virga (Hildegard von Bingen), Weihnachten (Felix Mendelssohn), Riu, Riu, Chiu (Mateo Flecha), an exciting choral and multi-percussionist arrangement of Gaudete (Michael Engelhardt) that will elevate the celebratory spirit, and many more! The concert will be accompanied by collaborative pianist, Chris Greenslade.
Join Hamilton Civic Choir for an evening filled with Christmas music, followed by a delightful supper, perfect for mingling with fellow music lovers. Celebrate the season in the stunning setting of St Peter’s Cathedral!
